Reverse Osmosis systems uses following additives to prevent fouling, scaling and biofouling of RO membranes in order to optimise reverse osmosis recovery rates, improve operational efficiency of RO plant and reduce problems associated: Scale is the precipitate that forms on surfaces in contact with water as a result of the precipitation of normally soluble solids that become insoluble as temperature increases. Some examples of scale are calcium carbonate, calcium sulphate, and calcium silicate.
Scale inhibitors are surface-active negatively charged polymers. As minerals exceed their solubility’;s and begin to merge, the polymers become attached. The structure for crystallisation is disrupted and the formation of scale is prevented. The particles of scale combined with the inhibitor will than be dispersed and remain in suspension.
Scaling
Scaling is concerned with the seclusion of suspended inorganic particles, such as calcium carbonate, barium sulfate and iron compounds.
Fouling
Fouling is concerned with the seclusion of organic, colloidal and suspended particles. Bacteria and other microorganisms that decompose these particles will create substrates. As a consequence they will grow and develop further.
The processes that are mentioned above will cause a decrease in capacity and/or an increase of the pressure and, as a result, of the energy use.
It is very important to purify the membrane preventively. In many cases regular mild cleaning is better than cleaning periodically with an aggressive cleaning product. The membrane will than last longer.
Salient Features
- High purity product - synthetic grade
- Fast acting - effective in removing a wide range of scales and deposits
- Does not contain a metal corrosion inhibitor which might adversely affect membrane performance
- Concentrated solution

Usage Tips
- When adjusting the pH of cleaning solutions or plant feed water always refer to membrane manufacturer’;s or OEM’;s instructions.
- KC -1005 should be added to good quality chlorine free water in suitable cleaning tank. The cleaning solution must be stirred to avoid localized variations in pH
